Hot damn, I'm an Author now!? I'm a big fan of the VES and what it does for our community, so it was truly an honor to co-author a chapter of the VES Handbook of Virtual Production focusing on its use in animation pipelines.
My Reel FX colleagues and I had the distinct honor of speaking to the talented Autism in Entertainment community about how we're looking at things differently, and taking big leaps in our work using AI and Real-Time technology.
This series is one of my crowning achievements, and I had no direct part in it! When I see my team - many of who'd never used Unreal before - educating others on the platform I trained them on, I know I've done something right! Check it out, and meet some of the super talented people I get to work with!
Another year, another talk about virtual production - this time with a lovely bunch of heavy-hitters from the world of stylized animation! No recap for this bad boy, but hey... there's an instagram reel?
Virtual Cameras are typically used for highly realistic VFX and video games. Just after the release of our Netflix show, Enrico and I had the opportunity to talk about why we we used VCAM for our super-stylized animated action-comedy!
An invigorating roundtable with some real smart peeps! Discussions of the future of virtual humans and virtual production were topical, as I was deep in building a real-time division and crafting the enigma that is Lil Miquela.
In this episode of ICVR's Xtended Realities Podcast, I had the pleasure to speak with some good friends and colleagues about Virtual Production, Digital Humans and the future of technology in film making.
Siggraph 2019 - Virtual Production and Collaboration
It was an honor to speak at Siggraph 2019 in Los Angeles for Epic Games, and Unreal Academy, giving a Keynote presentation about Collaborative Filmmaking in Virtual Production using Unreal Engine. Thank you Epic for the invitation, and Fox VFX Lab for always pushing the boundaries of film production.
This demo shows just a small sample of what we achieved at Fox VFX Lab using Virtual Production for Mouse Guard. It was a pleasure to work as the Real-Time Supervisor, managing a team that ran the Virtual Production on-set, Unreal Engine visualizations, ran camera and layout sessions, and did R&D and tool development.
A little behind the scenes on what my team and I accomplished on Welcome to Marwen. The show took a unique approach, melding fully CG virtual production with live-action facial performances transposed back on the doll heads for a truly unique look. I got to get my hands dirty across the production cycle for this one including pipeline development, previs, on-set operation, post-vis.
My team and I created a multi-part educational series for Epic Games' Unreal Academy, where we took a deep dive in how to use Virtual Cameras, Motion Capture, Blueprints, and my favorite for my animator brain: Sequencer! Available for free, I love creating trainings internally and externally so we can all do better work together. This fella is old enough they've replaced it with probably-much-more-useful videos (Unreal has changed a lot, ok!?)
Working on this reboot was an honor, and tickled all the nostalgic bones in my body! It was a pleasure working with Toys for Bob's animation team, crafting in-game character animation attacks and cycles, and unique cut-scene animations.
